Upvest, founded in 2017, enables any financial institution to offer great investment experiences to its customers. Upvest is an investment firm regulated by the German supervision authority (BaFin). The company currently employs 160+ people across Europe with its headquarters based in Berlin, Germany.

The company is backed by the world’s largest venture capital funds and investors including Bessemer Venture Partners, BlackRock, Earlybird, HV Capital, Notion Capital, and ABN Amro Ventures, as well as by renowned fintech entrepreneurs (including Maximilian Tayenthal, founder of N26, and Felix Haas, founder of IDnow).

We’re looking for fintech enthusiasts to join us in creating the financial infrastructure of tomorrow. We’re building the first European Investment API to enable any financial institution offering a wide range of efficient and transparent investment products, such as stocks and ETFs in nominal, portfolio, and fractional form. Our mission and vision is to make investing as easy as spending money.

We’re based in Berlin but are also open to hiring remotely in Germany or Estonia for this role. If you're currently based elsewhere but would like to move to Germany, we’re happy to support your relocation.

Your mission:

Accounting plays a critical role in our mission by ensuring that we have accurate and complete financial data to drive strategic decisions. As a key player in our accounting department, you’ll ensure the integrity of our general ledger—the foundation for internal and external reports that support stakeholders such as investors, regulators, tax authorities, and the public. To achieve this, you will implement smart, streamlined processes, establish robust controls, and continually seek ways to improve. We value a mindset that challenges the status quo and drives efficiency.

This role will give you the opportunity to:

  • Manage day-to-day accounting tasks, ensuring smooth monthly, quarterly, and yearly closings

  • Evaluate existing processes, proposing and implementing ideas to automate and optimize workflows

  • Enhance and maintain accounting-related internal controls to ensure compliance with external and internal audits (including ISAE 3402)

  • Develop clear and detailed work instructions

  • Leverage the features of our newly migrated ERP system to maximize efficiency

  • Provide essential support during external and internal audits and other accounting related projects

Job requirements:

  • Solid expertise in accounting and related processes

  • Initial work experience in a relevant field (e.g. accounting, audit, or advisory)

  • Strong communication skills in English, with the ability to simplify and explain complex concepts

  • Proficiency in Excel

  • A strong sense of ownership and responsibility

  • Keen attention to detail

  • Eagerness to deepen knowledge in accounting, processes, internal controls, and related areas

Nice to have

  • Worked with Oracle NetSuite or similar accounting/ERP system(s) before

  • Knowhow of German banking GAAP (“RechKredV”)
