We are a global gallium nitride (GaN) material and MicroLED technology developer, providing a wide range of solutions to meet the specific needs of our customers. With our novel PoroGaN® and DynamicPixelTuning® technology, we are revolutionising the Microdisplay and semiconductor industries.

About the role

We are looking for a capable and motivated Quality Engineer to join our team and oversee the quality of the porous wafers in our expanding UK office. Must have proof of right to work in the UK to apply.

The Quality Engineer’s responsibilities include developing quality standards, conducting tests and identifying issues in the production of our products for continuous improvement, and monitoring the incoming material quality to make sure it meets our requirements. Compliance and Auditing, currently we are ISO 9001:2015 and ISO14001 accredited.

This role involves working closely with the production team, engineering teams and development team. This is a vital role, ensuring that our products meet exacting standards as we scale to meet increasing demand from our globally recognised customers.

Key responsibilities:

Compliance and Auditing

  • Update our Quality Management System (QMS) with incidents, fixes and improvements.
  • Trained internal auditor able to audit our systems based on ISO 9001:2015 and ISO14001 requirements
  • Review current specifications and quality documentation
  • Coordinate with external quality assurance auditors and experts to ensure legal compliance
  • Hands-on experience with Quality Management Systems (QMS) and testing methodologies, experience in Semi-conductor processing or optoelectronics is a benefit.
  • In-depth understanding of technical documentation
  • Develop and execute process control plans for characterisation processes to ensure they are operating to the required standards and take the appropriate steps to correct an out-of-control condition.

Continuous Improvement

  • Determine and monitor quality metrics for all quality objectives
  • Work with internal teams to increase customer satisfaction by improving the quality of the products
  • Capture product and process requirements and identify gaps in skills and capabilities.
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
  • Good analytical skills and understanding of quality improvement techniques
  • Develop best practices, routines, and innovative solutions to improve production rates and quality of output.
  • Ensure the manufacturing system provides robustness and out-of-specification conditions are highlighted rapidly and contained effectively for investigation.

Immediate Engineering Fixes

  • Identify the root of technical issues and recommend fixes
  • Prepare reports on defects and corrective actions for products and processes.

Quality Control and Assurance

  • Set detailed guidelines for the quality gates for production and development processes, defining the parameters to be checked and establishing the quality standards.
  • Monitor the entire production cycle and perform regular tests to identify potential malfunctions as early as possible
  • Inspect product materials for defects and durability
  • Set and track quality assurance goals.
  • Work with engineering to develop the current characterisation processes used on the products of the business to ensure product compliance to required quality and performance standards.

Skills/Experience required:

  • Scientific or engineering degree in appropriate subject areas or knowledge gained through experience.
  • Data handling and analytical skills to review and draw conclusions from data collected.
  • Hands on approach with willingness to work in an agile and changing environment.
  • Proven project management skills to deliver outcomes to tight timescales with limited budgets.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and be exposed to new challenges.
  • Able and willing to work as part of a high-performing team
