About Palm

At Palm, data is at the foundation of everything we do. We're building a sophisticated application that helps enterprises make smarter financial decisions. You will get the opportunity to own the ML engine at the heart of our product — a per-customer forecasting system built on AutoGluon, with foundation model finetuning, custom evaluation metrics, and anomaly detection. This role is your chance to take ownership of a mature, production ML system and push it to the next level as we scale from being a challenger in the market to a leader in the enterprise treasury space.

This role isn't about building models from scratch in a notebook — it's about deeply understanding a sophisticated production system, improving it, and ensuring forecast quality for every customer. You'll work directly with our leadership team to define our ML strategy, push model accuracy, and build the infrastructure that keeps our forecasting engine reliable.

You'll be working side by side with product, AI engineers, and customer operations, with a clear path to technical leadership as we scale.

How will you make an impact?

• Own and evolve our forecasting pipeline built on AutoGluon, including per-customer model training, ensemble selection, and prediction generation.

• Push forecast accuracy through feature engineering — designing and refining covariates for calendar patterns, cross-series signals, payment cycles, and balance anchors.

• Be at the forefront of using AI-assisted workflows.

• Maintain and improve foundation model finetuning for per-customer model adaptation using PEFT and Transformers.

• Build and improve anomaly detection and changepoint detection systems to catch data quality issues before they affect forecasts.

• Design and run offline experiments to validate model changes before they reach production, using our custom evaluation suite (MASE, DTW, WQL, and more).

• Manage our MLflow model registry for per-customer model versioning, artifact storage, and experiment tracking.

• Build and manage our ML infrastructure through infrastructure as code and support other engineers in their ML & data needs.

• Drive engineering excellence through version control, CI/CD, testing, and reusable frameworks.

Where we work

Palm is a remote-first company, with team members across multiple locations. We value flexibility and believe the best work often happens outside the office.

That said, this is a core technical role. To build our ML platform collaboratively and support each other in a high-growth environment, we'll have regular in-person sessions with the engineering team and founders. We'll work together to determine the right cadence that supports both flexibility and collaboration.

Our wish list

Must-haves

• 5+ years in a machine learning or data science role with production ML experience.

• Proficiency in Python (pandas, numpy, data pipelines) since it powers our entire ML stack.

• Deep experience with time series forecasting — statistical methods, ensemble strategies, and modern frameworks.

• Comfortable with leveraging AI-assisted workflows and tools in the development process.

• Hands-on experience with deep learning — PyTorch, Transformers, and ideally PEFT/LoRA for foundation model adaptation.

• Strong feature engineering skills — domain-driven features and an intuition for what signals matter.

• Experience with statistical methods — anomaly detection, changepoint detection, and evaluation metrics beyond RMSE.

• Solid MLOps experience — model registries, experiment tracking, A/B evaluation, and production model monitoring.

• Knows their way around large-scale data tools — BigQuery for training data and metrics, PostgreSQL for model configs and task queues.

• Experience with cloud platforms (GCP preferred), infrastructure as code, and cloud cost optimisation.

• A startup mindset — being scrappy, product-driven and comfortable with ambiguity.

• Strong ownership mentality with the ability to work independently but also collaboratively drive projects to completion.

Nice-to-haves

• Domain knowledge in fintech, financial data, or banking systems (cash flow patterns, payment cycles, treasury operations).

• Experience with AutoML frameworks for time series.

• Experience with Airflow or similar orchestration tools for ML pipelines.

• Experience with dbt for data transformations.

• Experience with Go.

• Prior experience in a rapid-growth scale-up/startup environment.

• Contributions to open-source ML tools or communities.
