About the team

Started by Stefan and Nils in 2024, the Nomos team now consists of former researchers, founders and senior engineers united by a deep frustration of the current energy system and the vision to build a category leading enterprise out of Europe.

We strive to build a strong culture of effective communication, ownership and belonging. In this critical phase of our venture this translates to working in-person in Berlin Mitte with a group of people that value meritocracy, curiosity and craftsmanship.

What you'll do

  • Live the product. You'll sit with customers, dissect their problems, and develop a deep intuition for what we need to build to deliver a different and delightful user experience. Then you'll ship it, end-to-end, across the entire stack.

  • Ship like a team of five. Software engineering is changing at a radical pace and most people haven't caught up. We run an AI-native codebase and expect you to use tools like Claude Code and Cursor as force multipliers, not nice-to-haves. A single engineer at Nomos should ship what used to require a whole team a year ago. We think that's incredibly exciting. If that sounds too intense, we might not be the best fit.

  • Own zero-to-one problems. Whether it's architecting a dunning process from scratch or re-engineering our customer portal to reduce energy costs and cut support volume. You'll take full ownership from problem discovery to production.

  • Curate, don't just execute. Raw implementation is getting commoditized by AI. The hard part is now judgment: which problems actually matter, what the right solution looks like, and whether the outcome moves the needle. You operate like an editor with an army of builders at your fingertips not like a developer waiting for a ticket. The bottleneck is taste, not throughput.

Responsibilities

  • Solve the problems that make or break an energy retailer: billing, procurement, customer retention, cost optimization. Turn them into experiences that feel intuitive and delightful.

  • Develop taste for what to build and what to skip. Evaluate outcomes ruthlessly. Kill your darlings if necessary.

  • Shape our engineering culture, tooling, and processes. Help recruit and raise the bar for the core engineering team.

  • Adapt fast. The tools and methods that work today won't be the ones that work in six months. Stay on the frontier and bring the team with you.

  • You've built something real. We don't filter by years of experience. We assess you by what you've shipped. Maybe you built a core product at a place where the engineering bar was genuinely high (like Dennis). Maybe you built a successful open-source project (like Max), or advanced research in a domain you're passionate about (like Moritz). We'd love to see your work, not just your resume.

  • You thrive in ambiguity. At our stage, half the job is figuring out what the job is. You're energized by that, not paralyzed.

  • You want your work to reach people. What we build directly shapes how millions of Europeans consume and pay for energy. You want to work on problems that touch everyday life and make the energy transition actually work.

  • You hold yourself to a higher standard than anyone else could. You take extreme ownership. You're allergic to mediocrity. You'd rather work through nights to get something right than ship something you're not proud of.

  • You want a seat at the table, not just a seat on the team. We are a very small team. Every engineer has an outsized impact on what we build, how we build it, and where the company goes. We want you to shape Nomos, not just work on it.

Compensation Range: €80K - €120K
