Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly experienced Vice President of Pathology to join our team. The VP, Pathology works closely together with business developers, operational leaders, and clients on the assessment of new projects and associated equipment and resources. The position is the escalation point for any pathology related challenges and closely works together with the operational leaders and the client to get them solved. He/She represents the pathology team in front of clients.
The VP, Pathology is involved in the daily routine which includes the support of development and validation of new biomarker tests, the conduction of clinical trials (including companion diagnostic trials and performance studies), biomarker test evaluation for pharma clients / biotech outside of clinical trials as well as customer consultation and training. The Vice President, Pathology will act as Laboratory Director and as principal investigator for performance studies as far as applicable with national laws.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership and team building of a global pathology team
- Represent the pathology team in front of customers
- Global pathology resource management
- Harmonization and optimization of pathology related processes
- Responsible for overall quality of pathology deliverables. This includes the definition of training plans, staff training, the supervision of proficiency testing and competency programs
- Act as Laboratory Director for CAP/CLIA
- Act as principal investigator for IVD performance studies
- Evaluation and introduction of state of the art technology for the assessment of patient samples via histopathology and molecular pathology
- Feasibility assessment of new project requests
- Evaluation of the performance of new histological assays in assay development and their validation
- Manual evaluation, review and release of test results for exploratory or prospective clinical trials as well as for customer sponsored central test results outside of clinical trials (as far as applicable based on national law)
- Result entry in Laboratory Information Management System-1 (TALIMS-1) or per Result Form
- Digital image analysis
- Participation in external pathology training programs within the Discovery Academy unit, including content creation
- Consulting for project managers and business developers
- Supervision of the design of project specific instruction for use and document templates in collaboration with the lab and project managers
- Support of preparation of scientific presentations
Position Qualifications (Education, Skills, Experience):
- At least 8 years’ experience in human pathology in addition to proven leadership skills
- Board-certified Pathologist (German board certification preferred, but not required)
- Significant experience in predictive biomarkers, with a focus on oncology and/or immunology
- Strong expertise in histopathology techniques, including:
- Immunohistochemistry (IHC)
- Multiplex immunofluorescence (mIF)
- FISH
- RNA in situ hybridization
- Experience with digital pathology and image analysis platforms
- Familiarity working in clinical trials and/or GCLP-regulated environments
- Excellent English communication skills; German proficiency is a plus
- Additional experience in cytology, hematopathology, or genomics is advantageous
Location:
- 100% on site in Kassel, Germany
- Relocation assistance will be considered for the right candidate
- Up to 20% domestic and international travel
