The Role
As Head of Systems, you will take ownership of the end-to-end software and systems architecture across mimic’s whole stack - from firmware to AI. You will define how our systems interface with each other, how they are built, tested, deployed, and scaled, while ensuring they are robust, maintainable, and ready for production and certification.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role. You will guide architectural decisions, contribute directly to critical parts of the codebase, and work closely with robotics, AI, and infrastructure teams to bring a mature systems mindset to everything we build and contribute to mimic’s vision on automating manual labor.
What You’ll Do
- Own and evolve the system architecture from firmware to AI
- Define and enforce best practices for deployment, DevOps, and system reliability
- Make calls on platforms, languages, and tooling for software systems
- Collaborate closely with robotics, AI, and product teams to align technical direction
- Drive the certification of software systems
- Act as a technical authority and mentor across engineering teams
What We’re Looking For - Must Haves:
- Proven experience designing, scaling, and operating production-grade software systems
- Strong system-level thinking across software, infrastructure, and robotics/control
- Hands-on experience with robotics software stacks used in real-world deployments
- Experience making architectural decisions in complex systems
- Comfortability in personally contributing across different domains
- Experience in working with teams of diverse skillsets and aligning technical direction
- Strong understanding of reliability, deployment, and operational excellence
- Fluent in C++ and Python, experience in Linux-based development
- Working knowledge of robotics and control systems
Nice to Have
- Background in DevOps and infrastructure automation
- Proficiency with robotics middleware (e.g. ROS/ROS2)
- Open source contributions in the field of robotics and/or AI/ML
- Fluency in Rust
- Experience with AI/ML infrastructure in production environments
- Exposure to regulated environments and certification processes
- Exposure to embedded systems and bare-metal programming
