As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will drive the development of our dexterous robotic hands and robot platforms with a focus on manufacturing and industrialization to scale a product from first early prototypes to full production roll-out.
You combine a first principles engineering mindset with excellent conceptual and design engineering skills and the ability to neatly structure complex problems, manage suppliers and documentation for certification.
Responsibilities
  • Developing concepts and mechanisms for robotic hands: Build your own prototypes, quickly test and validate your ideas
  • Advanced CAD design, taking full ownership of parts and assemblies
  • Improving hardware designs about DFM/DFA
  • Managing suppliers, manufacturing partners, and in-house assembly to continuously improve prices, procedures, processes, and documentation
  • Reliability and lifetime testing of your systems, developing appropriate test setups and methods
  • Guiding relevant tests and writing documentation for certification
  • Requirement engineering, working with various teams to maintain an overview of features and priorities in a fast-paced environment
Requirements
  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline from a top university
  • Bachelor’s degree + 5 years of industry experience or master’s degree + 3 years of industry experience
  • A track record of bringing complex physical products into series production, including product release and certification processes
  • Strong foundation and experience in CAD design, including managing complex assemblies with hundreds of parts
  • The ability to switch between working modes for quick and dirty testing and validating concepts, and rigorous perfectionism in engineering and documenting details for releases
  • You have worked in an environment close to manufacturing, where you have gathered hands-on experience in designing, manufacturing, assembling, and testing mechatronic systems
  • Experience in managing suppliers and manufacturing partners, including process documentation
  • Extensive 3D printing expertise with an understanding of different processes (FDM, SLS, SLA) and their design requirements
  • Fluent in English
Nice To Have
  • Experience in developing high DoF systems like robotic hands, grippers, or arms
  • You have worked along the entire development process of a hardware product from concept to series manufacturing
  • First experience with cable or tendon-driven mechanisms
  • Experience with casting methods, laser cutting, CNC machining, and material selection
  • Experience working in highly agile teams, for example, in a start-up or scale-up
  • First experience in guiding other team members or in a technical leadership role
  • Knowledge of product certification processes
  • Experience in FEM simulations, topology optimization,
  • German language skills
