The Role

As a Perception Intern, you'll build multi-modal perception pipelines that fuse cameras, LiDAR, and audio to give our robots robust situational awareness in the field. You'll ship code that runs on real robots in real environments, and learn how to take perception research into production where data is noisy and conditions change.

This role is highly practical: you'll help design fusion pipelines, evaluate against real field data, and integrate perception modules into our autonomy stack. You'll get exposure to the messy reality of outdoor sensing that academic benchmarks rarely capture.

What You'll Work On

  • Build multi-modal perception pipelines fusing camera, LiDAR, and audio inputs.
  • Develop calibration tools for multi-sensor setups.
  • Evaluate perception modules on field-collected data across varied conditions.
  • Contribute to ROS 2 integrations and downstream autonomy interfaces.
  • Run experiments on edge cases: weather, lighting, occlusion, sensor faults.
  • Apply solid engineering practices: Docker, version control, reproducible experiments.
  • Who We're Looking For

    We're looking for a motivated student excited to apply academic training in a fast-moving startup. You'll be surrounded by a team that values learning, experimentation, and building things that actually work in the real world.

    Your Background:

  • Currently pursuing PhD or recently completed a Master's degree in Robotics, Computer Vision, or a closely related field.
  • Familiarity with multi-sensor systems (camera, LiDAR, IMU, or audio arrays).
  • Hands-on experience with ROS 2 or similar robotics middleware.
  • Good coding skills in C++ and/or Python.
  • Comfortable using Docker and Git in your workflows.
  • Strong problem-solving mindset.
  • Nice to Have:

  • Background in sensor fusion, multi-modal learning, or calibration.
  • Experience with point cloud processing libraries (PCL, Open3D).
  • Familiarity with acoustic processing or audio-based perception.
  • Exposure to real-world robotics field testing.
