Khazna has received the Central Bank of Egypt’s first prepaid card license and aims to become the go-to specialized bank for underbanked mid-to-low-income consumers across the Middle East. In the next phase of its journey, Khazna is looking to continue scaling up its operations in Egypt and to launch its operations in Saudi Arabia.

Job Summary 💼

As a Data Engineering and Platform Lead at Khazna,you will lead the engineering force behind the company’s modern data stack. You will be at the forefront of building, scaling, and maintaining the core data assets and infrastructure that powers our business.

This is a hands-on, technical leadership role with engineering at its heart, but equally critical is your ability to build and lead a high-performing team. You will lead the development of reliable, efficient, and secure data pipelines, enable real-time and batch data processing, and ensure our data platform is robust and future-ready.

This role is ideal for an engineering leader who thrives on solving complex data problems at scale, building high-performance systems, and mentoring a team of skilled engineers. You will also play a key role in setting the technical vision and ensuring our platform evolves to support a fast-moving, data-driven fintech business.

Responsibilities📋

Engineering Leadership and Technical Delivery

• Drive the end-to-end development of batch and real-time data pipelines that serve internal teams and external products.
• Ensure high performance, scalability, and robustness of data processing workflows, storage systems, and platform services.
• Own technical implementation and architectural decisions across core engineering efforts—including orchestration, compute, storage, and access.
• Champion engineering best practices including clean code, testing, documentation, version control, CI/CD, and observability.

Platform and Architecture Ownership

• Design and evolve Khazna’s data platform, covering architecture, streaming and batch processing layers, and self-service capabilities.
• Evaluate and implement tools and frameworks (e.g., Spark, Kafka, dbt, Airflow, Dagster, Snowflake/BigQuery, Terraform, Kubernetes) to support growth and scale.
• Oversee platform reliability, cost optimization, data quality enforcement, and data governance integrations (catalogs, lineage, access control).
• Lead architectural reviews and technical planning processes, ensuring our systems are future-proof and efficient.

Cross-Functional Enablement and Collaboration

• Work closely with Analytics, and Business teams to ensure data availability, performance, and reliability for critical use cases.
• Translate strategic business needs into scalable engineering solutions, balancing speed with long-term platform integrity.
• Act as a bridge between engineering and non-technical stakeholders, clearly articulating tradeoffs and timelines.

Team Management and Talent Development

• Build, manage, and mentor a team of data engineers fostering a collaborative, accountable, and inclusive environment.
• Set clear goals and expectations, drive performance management, and support career growth for your team members.
• Promote a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.

Qualifications🎓

• 5+ years of progressive experience in data engineering and infrastructure roles, with 2+ years in a team leadership or management capacity.
• Deep knowledge of modern data engineering tools (e.g. Airflow, Spark, Kafka, Dagster, DBT, AirByte, Airflow, or similar technologies.)
• Strong proficiency in Python and SQL; familiarity with infrastructure-as-code and cloud-native architecture.
• Experience with cloud-based data platforms (Preferably GCP).
• Proven ability to manage engineering teams and deliver large-scale, high-impact data systems.
• Experience enforcing data quality, reliability, and governance standards in complex environments.
