We are on a mission to reinvent in-house legal (and beyond!) in the emerging agentic paradigm. This means reimagining what software is, how businesses interact with software, and how expertise is shared (& executed upon) throughout enterprises.
The Role
This is a full-time remote role for an AI Engineer at Flank. You will work in our "Applied AI" team. This team is currently building an architecture for legal agents that can respond to common requests, leverage tools, conduct multi-step planning, learn from interactions, and more.
You will leverage and fine tune LLMs from Google, OpenAI, Anthropic, and Meta. And you will explore opportunities for leveraging our vast corpus of conversation and task data to train LoRA adapters, fine tune embeddings models, and you may begin to look to a future in which we train our own, small, hyper-vertical model(s).
Who You Are
We’re looking for a strong builder with 3-5 years of experience (ideally at series A+) and AI / ML foundations.
Familiarity with standard LLM APIs & interfaces (OpenAI, Anthropic, Vertex AI, HuggingFace)
Backend development experience in Python & TypeScript (FastAPI, Node + Express)
Experience developing production-grade augmented generation systems with:
- multi-step LLM orchestrations
- Retrieval (vector DBs, knowledge graphs, hybrid)
- Evals (LLM as a judge, traditional methods)
Knowledge of:
- LLM Fine-tuning (LoRA, PeFT)
- Embeddings / encoder model fine-tuning
- Bonus: RL + inference time compute techniques
- Generative feedback loops
Pragmatic with a high degree of agency
Have a good product sense (or want to learn).
Keep up to date with new developments & research in AI.
