Head of Legal

FairMoney is a mobile bank that provides credit services for emerging markets. It was established in 2017 and operates in Nigeria. The company raised nearly €50 million from global investors such as Tiger Global, DST, and Flourish Ventures. FairMoney has offices in several countries, namely France, Nigeria, Germany, Latvia, the UK, Türkiye, and India.

The role will be dynamic and will leverage your commercial experience and familiarity with financial services. You will additionally provide company secretarial assistance to FairMoney.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice on the administration, operations, and financial activities of FairMoney.
  • Responsible for legal affairs, including overseeing, identifying, and dealing with all legal issues which affect the Company.
  • Own, prepare and maintain customer-facing terms and conditions for our products, regulated or otherwise.
  • Lead in the drafting and negotiation of commercial agreements on behalf of FairMoney.
  • Provide company secretarial services to FairMoney.
  • Support general strategic and corporate projects, including but not limited to the development of new products (regulated or otherwise), regulated license applications, intragroup projects, relevant corporate affairs/matters, advice on the legal implications of employee incentive structures, etc.
  • Work closely with the compliance team, especially in areas related to compliance with law, regulations, and self-regulation codes.
  • Responsible for proactively managing the legal risks of FairMoney including managing the litigation database and providing relevant updates to FairMoney management and board as needed.
  • Provide in-house legal support for the Company’s acquisition and fund-raising activities.
  • Advise management on the impact of any new legal & regulatory guidelines.

To be the right candidate for this position, we expect you to have a University degree in law with 7+ years of relevant experience in a law firm or from an in-house role, ideally in the financial sector.

You are proactive in a fast-paced environment, a confident decision-maker, and a strong analytical problem solver with excellent communication skills. Finally, we expect you to be a knowledge-sharing team player who creates positive working relationships with others.

Recruitment Process

  • Screening call with a member of the recruitment team for 30 minutes.
  • Technical interview with key stakeholders for 60-90 minutes.
  • Final Interview with the CFO/ key executives for 45-60 minutes.
