Principal E/E Engineer (Sensory Perception & Systems Architect) (m/f/d)
ARX Robotics
About the Role
We are seeking a visionary Principal E/E Engineer to serve as the definitive authority on our platform’s sensory perception strategy. In this senior technical role, you will lead the design of the "digital nervous system" for our advanced, ruggedized platforms. Your mission is to ensure our systems perceive their environment with absolute precision while maintaining a hardware architecture that is impervious to the harshest physical and electromagnetic conditions. You will bridge the gap between high-level sensor fusion and the rugged E/E infrastructure required to support it in mission-critical environments.
Your Responsibilities
Advanced Sensor Systems & Perception Strategy
- Sensor Suite Orchestration: Lead the technical roadmap, selection, and integration of a diverse perception stack, including LiDAR, Radar, UWB, and multi-spectral Camera systems (Thermal/LWIR/NVG).
- Perception Architecture: Define the data-path architecture to handle highbandwidth sensor streams, ensuring minimal latency and synchronized data triggering across the suite.
- Advanced Positioning & Dead Reckoning: Drive positioning strategies for GNSS-denied environments, mastering the integration of high-grade IMUs, INS, and Doppler sensors.
- Coverage & Fidelity Analysis: Conduct exhaustive Field of View (FOV) and "blind-spot" simulations. Own the end-to-end lifecycle of sensor calibration, verification, and environmental qualification.
Sensor-Centric E/E Architecture
- High-Integrity Infrastructure: Design the complete E/E architecture with a focus on Signal Integrity (SI) for low-level sensor signals and high-speed data buses (Automotive Ethernet, GMSL2, PCIe).
- Clean Power Distribution: Architect ultra-low-noise power supplies specifically optimized for sensitive analog sensors and high-performance perception processing units.
- Ruggedized Integration: Ensure the sensory hardware survives extreme conditions (IP67/69K) by engineering advanced thermal management and vibration-isolated mounting solutions in accordance with MIL-STD-810.
Electromagnetic Mastery & Compliance
- EMC for Perception: Act as the lead expert in EMI/EMC mitigation, ensuring that high-power drive systems do not interfere with sensitive perception hardware.
- System Immunity: Design hardware from the ground up to meet MIL-STD-461 and commercial standards, ensuring 100% sensor availability in electronically contested or noisy environments.
- Functional Safety (FuSa): Collaborate with the software team to implement hardware-level redundancy and fail-operational logic for all safety-critical sensors.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Experience: 12+ years in complex E/E system design with at least 6 years focused specifically on Sensor Integration or Perception Architecture.
- Physics of Sensing: Deep technical mastery of the underlying physics (and limitations) of LiDAR, Radar, and Optical sensors in degraded visual environments (dust, fog, rain).
- Ruggedization Expert: Proven track record of bringing sensor-heavy platforms through MIL-STD-810 (Environmental) and MIL-STD-461 (EMC) qualification.
- Standards Knowledge: Expert familiarity with the European Machinery Directive and ISO 26262 / IEC 61508 safety standards.
Nice to Have
- Defense Background: Direct experience with defense-grade sensor suites and secure communication protocols is highly desirable.
Benefits and Perks
