Key Responsibilities
Market Insights and Strategy:
- Risk Management: Ensure our trading activities adhere to established risk management policies while actively managing and optimizing trade positions.
- Market Analysis: Analyze market trends and key indicators to inform trading decisions. Develop and share your market perspectives to guide the team’s trading strategy.
- Position Oversight: Take charge of managing specific trade positions or subsets, aiming to maximize revenue and align with strategic goals.
Logistics and Execution:
- Strategic Planning: Lead logistics strategy, including managing execution for truck and rail logistics and optimizing commodity arbitrage.
- Freight Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with freight providers and negotiate favorable contracts.
- Execution Challenges: Proactively solve problems and address any issues that arise during the execution phase to ensure smooth operations.
Customer Engagement and Relationship Building:
- Business Development: Identify and attract customers that align with our business objectives, enhancing our market presence.
- Relationship Management: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with both buyers and sellers. Handle trading conflicts with diplomacy and efficiency.
- Customer Experience: Deliver exceptional customer service, ensuring a positive experience and addressing any concerns or questions promptly.
Financial Oversight and P&L Management:
- Financial Planning: Collaborate with the Trade Unit Manager to oversee P&L management. Prepare and review financial forecasts, monthly reports, and daily position updates.
- Budget Management: Monitor and manage position limits, credit limits, and inventories, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and financial guidelines.
Team Leadership and Development:
- Mentoring: Provide guidance and support to fellow Merchants and Merchandiser Assistants, fostering their professional growth.
- Collaboration: Drive team collaboration and contribute to a cohesive work environment within the division and across the company.
What We’re Looking For:
- Experience: A minimum of 5 years in commodity merchandising or a related field, with proven trading expertise.
- Education: A degree in business or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
Skills:
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking capabilities.
- Excellent customer service skills with a knack for building and maintaining relationships.
- Ability to operate effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Solid understanding of financial and accounting principles.
- Effective problem-solving skills.
