Adverity

Software Engineering
Vienna, Austria
Posted on Nov 13, 2024

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Staff Python Engineer to join our Product Engineering Team. You will lead technical strategy, execution, and delivery of key projects, shaping architecture and prioritising performance and security. Beyond your technical role, you'll mentor team members, share knowledge, and set an example for the entire Engineering Team.

This is a full-time position where you can work remotely in Europe or from one of our following offices: Vienna, London, Katowice or Sofia.

Some of the things you’ll work on:

In the first month:

  • Get to know the team and become familiar with our product, technologies, systems, and practices, focusing on understanding the Transformations & Enrichments architecture and codebase inside-out.
  • Absorb our culture, start coding, and ramp up quickly within Adverity.
  • Start participating in meetings to understand and clarify project requirements and align with stakeholders.

In the first 3 months:

  • At this point, you know the Adverity platform very well, both product and tech. You are a technical leader.
  • Support the team and mentor engineers with deep code reviews, guiding them towards better system quality and engineering practices.
  • Start leading conversations and documenting project solutions and planning the technical delivery.

In the first 6 months:

  • Participate in shaping new features, get your hands dirty in PoCs, break down technical scopes, and start working cross-team.
  • Drive incident responses, help out in diagnosing complex issues, and shape operational excellence.
  • Build strong connections within and outside of the Engineering Team: Engineers, Product Managers, UX Designers, Customer Support, etc.

After 6 months:

  • Drive strategic cross-product engineering initiatives and guide teams towards pragmatic technical decisions based on a limited context, striving to constantly improve maintainability and reliability.
  • Foster a culture of excellence: outcomes-oriented solutions, incremental value delivery with good predictability on commitments, high technical quality, extensive testing, thorough monitoring, performance & security built-in.
  • Lead process optimisation initiatives to enhance practices not just within your team but across the company, extending even to non-technical areas like Operations (Ops).

We’re excited if you have:

  • Generalist experience building end-to-end solutions from scratch and scaling complex systems, with a deep understanding of web technologies.
  • Expertise in Python, with proficiency in libraries such as Django and Celery, and staying current with the ecosystem.
  • Thorough knowledge of modern databases, such as PostgreSQL, BigQuery, Redshift, Snowflake, SQL Server, or similar.
  • Ability to conduct deep code reviews, ensuring code quality while understanding the bigger picture.
  • Experience diagnosing complex systems, including performance, monitoring, logging, and tracing.
  • A history of leadership and teamwork, supporting multiple teams (ideally in a cross-functional setup) and aligning them with the technical roadmap.
  • Strong communication skills, including active listening, advocating, persuading, and synthesising information effectively, as well as mentoring engineers.
  • A curious mindset with a passion for continuous learning and the ability to quickly dive deeper when needed.
  • A bias for action and making timely, pragmatic decisions.

Nice to have:

  • DevOps mentality.
  • Kaizen approach.
  • Product knowledge: Marketing and tooling for marketers, agencies, and advertisers.

Why you'll love it here:

  • Flexible working hours and home-office
  • Ergonomic workspace and cutting edge technology
  • Budget for job relevant training
  • Regular team events (also remote)
  • Modern and stylish offices
  • Sustainable merch for all employees
  • Adverity Social Responsibility Days (+2 days paid off)
