Cambridge Mobile Telematics (CMT) is the world’s largest telematics service provider. Its mission is to make the world’s roads and drivers safer. The company’s AI-driven platform, DriveWell® Fusion, gathers sensor data from millions of IoT devices — including smartphones, proprietary Tags, connected vehicles, dashcams, and third-party devices — and fuses them with contextual data to create a unified view of vehicle and driver behavior. Auto insurers, automakers, commercial mobility companies, and the public sector use insights from CMT’s platform to power risk assessment, safety, claims, and driver improvement programs. Headquartered in Cambridge, MA, with offices in Budapest, Chennai, Seattle, Tokyo, and Zagreb, CMT measures and protects tens of millions of drivers across the world every day.

This Principal Quality Engineer is responsible for partnering and collaborating with customers, strategic suppliers, engineering, supply chain, manufacturing, and test teams to ensure CMT’s IoT devices meet rigorous industry standards and CMT performance requirements. This role will support four key areas: 1) daily quality support at designated contract manufacturers 2) leadership of product releases and design changes into manufacturing, 3) continuous improvement of product quality and reliability, and 4) driving resolution of factory and field quality issues. A successful candidate will have deep quality engineering experience with high-volume manufacturing of complex electro-mechanical systems, printed circuit boards, and printed circuit board assemblies.

Responsibilities:

  • Drive quality plan definition, alignment and execution for contract manufacturers including development of process flow diagrams, PFMEAs, control plans, critical characteristics, quality reports, and traceability protocols
  • Lead failure analysis and root cause identification of hardware issues discovered at the factory or in the field. Identify trending issues and prioritize based on severity, occurrence, and/or cost of each failure mode. Collaborate with manufacturing engineering and contract manufacturing quality teams to drive containment and corrective action plans
  • Establish and implement inspections, test methods and inspection sampling plans to ensure the performance and quality of the product meet product specifications and expectations. Deploy Statistical Process Control as required to improve process capability
  • Ensure manufacturing processes are formally approved for volume production (eg PPAP), including qualifying process, design or test changes
  • Provide manufacturing lessons learned feedback into the design process, and work with Engineering teams to optimize products to achieve superior quality in the factory
  • Establish quality standards for products and processes and suggest modifications to prevent defects in components, process, test and final assemblies. Develop inspection criteria and procedures at all applicable stages of production. Establish Critical-to-Quality performance metrics to measure and improve product quality
  • Provide day-to-day support for Document and Change Control in CMT’s PLM system (Arena) including processing change orders, training new users on the Change Control process, and serving as subject matter expert on managing the proper implementation of design and process changes at contract manufacturers
  • Complete any additional tasks as they arise

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or relevant field
  • Minimum of 9+ years of experience in Quality Assurance/Quality Engineering functions relating to Contract Manufacturing operations, PCBA build and electronics testing equipment
  • Experience with transferring products from design through validation into manufacturing
  • Experience with data-driven analytical methodologies for manufacturing, including Statistical Process Control, Six Sigma, Process Capability, and/or Process Performance Analysis
  • Strong analytical skills with proven experience working with a variety of Quality tools
  • Strong understanding of core quality tools (APQP, PPAP, SPC, FMEA, MSA)
  • Strong problem-solving skills to resolve factory and field quality issues, ensuring that containment, root cause analysis, and corrective action are performed following quality processes
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams

Nice to have:

  • Knowledge of statistics and Minitab, including process capability and data normality assessments, analysis of variance, hypothesis testing, determining appropriate sample sizes, tolerance interval assessments for variable and attribute data, design of experiment (DOE), and variable and attribute sampling plan applications would be a great asset

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Fair and competitive salary based on skills and experience
  • Equity may be awarded in the form of Restricted Stock Units (RSUs)
  • Medical, Dental, Vision and Life Insurance, matching 401k, short-term & long-term disability and parental leave
